Glycopyrrolate for hyperhidrosis

Are you suffering form hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)? This condition affects about 2-3% of population. It most commonly affects forehead, face, underarm, hands and feet. It can be quite embarrassing and can limit social activities. Besides aluminum based products, topical glycopyrrolate is an effective and safe option.

Glycopyrrolate applied topically can penetrate the skin to block the nerve signals that stimulate the sweat glands, and therefore resulting in a reduction of sweat secretion. It is to be applied to affected area at bedtime. Clinical studies have shown that excessive forehead, facial sweating and diabetic gustatory sweating (profuse sweating with eating) being treated successfully with topical glycopyrrolate.

Topical glycopyrrolate has been shown to be well tolerated with minimal side effects. For more information about glycopyrrolate use in excessive heating, feel free to check out our clinical website or contact our clinical pharmacist team for more information.

The Fight Against Hyperhidrosis

Most people are familiar with the science behind fight or flight, but what happens when excessive sweating, formally known as hyperhidrosis, begins to take over your day to day life? Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which the body sweats beyond what is needed to maintain thermal regulation, often times leading to emotional and social stress. In fact, scientific data shows that hyperhidrosis is currently affecting about 3% of the North American population.
For most, the causes are considered to be generalized or localized resulting from several different preexisting conditions or factors such as: heat and exercise, febrile diseases, metabolic and neurologic conditions, as well as certain drugs. Luckily, modern day science has provided a treatment option known as Drysol that is fighting back against this chronic condition.
Drysol is a topical treatment that uses Aluminum Chloride hexahydrate 12% as it’s active ingredient, which works as an obstructer by blocking and breaking down the secretory cells. Because of this obstruction, patients not only sweat less, but the unpleasant odor associated with sweating is also eliminated. Not only is Drysol effective, but it is also easy to use, requiring only a thin layer to the affected area for a couple of days initially and then weekly or as directed by your doctor. Also depending on the severity of the condition, Drysol is available in varying strengths, ranging from 6.25% to 20%. You can find all of the Drysol products mentioned here on our website https://www.biosenseclinic.com/collections/drysol and hyperhidrosis can become a thing of the past.

How to properly use Drysol and Glycopyrrolate spray to maximize their effects?

Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) is currently affecting about 3% of our population. The primary cause of causing sweat gland overactive however is unknown. The condition greatly affects social embarrassment, confident level, emotional well being and even clothing selection.

Drysol (aluminum chloride hexahydrate) and Glycopyrrolate are two clinically proven effective topical treatment options. Areas of treatment include underarm, hands, feet, scalp and face.

Drysol comes in 3 different strengths (mild, regular and extra strength). Selection of strength would be tailor to the area and the severity of the condition. For example, for underarm, feet or palm area, regular or extra strength should be considered. Mild strength would be suitable for milder case and as maintenance therapy and suitable for back, toes, or face area.

Glycopyrrolate topical spray is another effective treatment option especially on face and scalp area. It can also be used together with Drysol to enhance antiperspirant effect.

How to apply Drysol and/ or Glycopyrrolate Spray?

Apply Drysol solution at bedtime to allow 6 to 8 hours of application. Ensure the affected area is completely dry before application to minimize potential skin irritation. A hair dryer at cool or warm setting can be used for a few minutes to ensure skin is dry completely. Wash the treated area the following morning. Repeat use until sweating is reduced. Then reduce the frequency of use to 1 to 2 times weekly or as desired to maintain the effect.

Drysol and/ or Topical Glycopyrrolate is being applied to affected area once daily at bedtime. Avoid nose, mouth and eye areas. Do not wash the treated area for 4 hours after the application.
